Religious Education
Religious Education is fundamental to the overall development of the child. We aim to build on each child’s experience of living the faith in a Christian family, lead them into a deeper understanding of their life in the Church, and give opportunities to grow closer to the wider community of the Resurrection Parish family. We endeavour to equip all children at Resurrection School with the knowledge, skills and understandings necessary to live a full Christian life. This is not limited to the formalised teaching of religious education in the classroom, and It refers to the total life and work of the school. Our Religious Education Program is based upon the Religious Education Curriculum Framework for Catholic schools, in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. This framework sits within the context of Horizons of Hope. The mission of the Catholic school is the core work of Catholic educators:
‘Catholic schools were founded to proclaim Jesus’ message of God’s love for all. Our Catholic faith calls us to embrace the contemporary world with a Catholic imagination, and a particular hope-filled view of the human person and all of creation. Catholic educators invite students to make sense of their world and their lives within a faith community that is faithful to the mission of Jesus (Horizons of Hope: Context 2016, p. 9).
Elements of our Religious Education program are drawn from “To Know, Worship and Love”, also produced by the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
Our Religious Education program emphasises the Gospel values of faith, hope, justice, reconciliation and freedom. Religious Education is taught through Inquiry units of work each term, which develops learning in an environment that leads to deepened understanding. We aim to develop an awareness of, an understanding of, a response to and a celebration of the life of God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church and the wider world.
